When an AI summary repeats a false claim

AI answers largely reflect the pages they draw on, though they can also misstate them. Correct the pages, and the answer has something better to draw on.

1. Record exactly what the summary says

Capture the query you used, the date, the full text of the summary, and every source it links. AI answers vary by query wording, location, and time, so a dated record matters. TruthRanking tracks AI-generated summaries for your topic alongside ordinary search results.

2. Find which pages it is drawing on

Open each cited link and find the sentence the summary relied on. Often the summary cites a copy, such as an aggregator or a repost, rather than the original. Trace each one to its first source.

3. Rate the claim on the evidence

Before asking anyone to change anything, establish what the record shows. If you cannot link contradicting evidence, the claim is unverified, not false, and a correction request will not hold up.

4. Correct the origin

Send an evidence-backed correction request to the publisher of the first source. A corrected original removes the strongest thing the summary was citing.

5. Publish the accurate record somewhere citable

Search engines and AI systems tend to cite clear, specific, well-structured pages. A sourced FAQ or a dated timeline on your own site, with links to the primary documents, gives them an accurate page to draw on. State facts plainly, date them, and link the evidence.

6. Send feedback through the provider's own tools

Many search and AI providers offer feedback options on their answers. Report the specific inaccurate statement and link the evidence. Keep it factual and brief.

7. Keep checking

Re-run the same queries on a schedule and keep the dated records. That shows whether the summary changed, and when, which is useful for any later conversation with the publisher, the platform, or counsel.
